In the Division of the Arts and Humanities, admissions for the 2026-2027 academic year are paused in all doctoral programs except for Philosophy and Music Composition and Sound Practices, and in all master’s programs except for the Master of Arts Program in the Humanities and the Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts. This is a one-time pause for the 2026-2027 academic year.

If you are a prospective applicant, we encourage you to stay connected with us and to explore other AHD degree programs that may match your graduate education interests. Questions and requests for additional information should be sent to ahd-admissions@uchicago.edu.

Application Timeline

Applications will be evaluated on the basis of materials submitted by the deadline. We cannot guarantee that materials received after the deadline will be given consideration. Late applications will be considered only as long as places are available in the relevant programs. Financial aid (other than loans) is not available for late applicants.

Applicants to the two-year specialized M.A. who are not admitted to that program will be automatically considered for the one-year M.A. and may be offered admission to the latter.

Required Materials

Our application is now entirely online. All materials should be submitted through the online application system. Please do not send any materials in hard copy. If for any reason it is not possible to submit materials online, please contact the Division of the Arts & Humanities by email at ahd-admissions@uchicago.edu or by telephone at +1-773-702-1552.

We recommend submitting application documents as PDF files for the most reliable results. The application system will also accept Microsoft Word documents, OpenDocument files, and a few other formats with varying levels of fidelity. Regardless of the file format you use, we recommend reviewing your application carefully to make sure all documents were successfully added to your file by our system.
